A Midsummer Reading Invasion (for July)

Friends: Please join us on Monday July 27th at 7pm for the 2nd Reading Invasion of 2015. This time around, we’re going to be gathering in a new Reading Invasion location: the Pelion Community Garden (Facebook page here), located on Best St directly across from City Honors.

It’s a smaller space than Bidwell, but we think you will love it. The Pelion Community Garden is one of those small Buffalo gems that everyone should know about. So please join us with something good to read, a blanket or chair, and anyone (including children) you’d like to read with.

Hope to see you there!

Tonight’s Reading Invasion postponed until NEXT MONDAY, JUNE 15th

Hello Buffalo friends:

With the weather looking rather soggy and grey and generally unpleasant, we’ve decided to postpone the Reading Invasion until next Monday, June 15th.

Same time (7pm); same place (Bidwell); same rules (bring a book; read).

Hope to see you then!

Getting to Wilkeson Pointe (and Sunday’s Invasion)

Wilkeson Pointe is a new gem along Buffalo’s remarkable (but under-utilized) Outer Harbor. The Pointe been recently worked on (article), with bathrooms, public docking (if you want to boat down), and some really cool Wind Sculptures (here). It’s a great spot for a Reading Invasion, though it’s less familiar than most of our previous locations. So…some directional help for those directionally needy:

[Coming from the North] Take the skyway (can be accessed via the 190 or taking Elmwood south all the way until it ends) up and over the Buffalo river. Get off at the Outer Harbor Drive exit. Turn right onto Fuhrmann Boulevard. Stay on this until you arrive at Wilkeson Pointe (on the lefthand side).
[Coming from the South] Take the Route 5 north, and get onto Fuhrmann Blvd north before you go over the Skyway.  Stay on Fuhrmann Blvd until you arrive at Wilkeson Pointe (on the lefthand side).

Biking around the Outer Harbor is easy and enjoyable, with bike lanes galore.  However, getting there, at this point, is a little tricky, particularly with construction along Ohio St. Best bet: Take Michigan, cross the shipping canal, take a left of Ganson St., and then cross the river at the Ohio Street Bridge. Once across, just ride up the Furhmann til you get to Wilkeson Pointe.

BY BOAT: There are public docks at Wilkeson Pointe, so feel free to pull your boat up and join the Invasion that way!

August 3rd Reading Invasion Location

On Sunday, August 3rd, starting at 4pm, the next Buffalo Reading Invasion is taking place in a new space: Wilkeson Pointe, on Buffalo’s Outer Harbor (article here). The Pointe is complete with rest rooms, is dog friendly, has plenty of room for everyone, and comes with an incredible view of Lake Erie.

This time around, we are partnering with the 21st Century Park on the Outer Harbor (http://21stcenturypark.org/), a local group dedicated to turning the outer harbor area into a public park. Please come hear from them about their plans for the rest of the Outer Harbor.

So please join us for an afternoon of reading along one of the great remaining undeveloped waterfronts in the United States. Please bring a friend, something to sit on, a picnic if you wish, and something to read.

It’s a little tricky to get to, but well worth the trip. See the map below for details.
